Summary:

Signs and billboards come to life to sing and dance and later help a chick escape a hungry cat.

That’s Not All, Folks:

This is the first Warner cartoon to use “Merrily We Roll Along”, which would later become the theme music for the Merrie Melodies.

This is also the last Warner cartoon to be in 2-strip Technicolor, due to Disney’s exclusive rights to 3-strip Technicolor expiring around this time.

The animation of the girl dancing a rumba is reused from “The Miller’s Daughter”.

The animation of the dancing ducks from “Beauty and the Beast” is reused once more- this time as penguins advertising cigarettes.

The women’s clothes dancing to an Arabian tune resembles the female clothes from “The Girl at the Ironing Board”.

This is the first of what I like to call a “lucky survivor”, which is a Warner cartoon in color from late 1935 to mid 1948 that was not given a Blue Ribbon reissue.

What I Like About This One:

The subtle “Chases Men” sign that is seen on the “Old Maid Cleanser” cans.

Russian Rye bread doing the Russian dance to “Merrily We Roll Along”.

Soap chips being poured to resemble snow to accompany the skating penguins.

A worm spanking the chick that is reused animation from “Pop Goes Your Heart”.

The chick accidentally chewing down on a pump that inflates him.

The light of the moon revealing the cat’s skeleton.

The closeups of the cat (which would look terrifying in a little bird’s perspective).

The chick being saved by the arm on the “Ham and Armour” Baking Soda.
