Directed by Friz Freleng
Release Date:
February 8, 1936
Main Character(s):
None
Summary:
A mother cat trains her kittens to attack mice, while a mother mouse teaches her offspring to avoid cats. One kitten and one mouse both sneak out at the same time and become friends. Danger arises when the kitten falls into a sewer and the mouse must save him. In the end, when both are safe and sound, the two families become friends, but the friendship doesn’t last long, and they are back to their old fighting ways.
That’s Not All, Folks:
The cartoon was given a Blue Ribbon reissue. Since the original titles are lost, here are the credits:
Supervision: I. Freleng
Musical Score: Norman Spencer
Animation: Bob McKimson and Ben Clopton
Interestingly, the kitten and the mouse who became friends do not appear in the last scene, although they clearly escaped the sewer.
The mother cat’s line, “She did?” is said in the mother mouse’s voice.
What I Like About This One:
The mother cat having a higher pitched voice than the mother mouse (who has a deeper sounding voice).
What the mothers use to train their offspring (a large mouse made of sand, a cat’s claw on a stick, a mechanical wind-up mouse, and a large mousetrap).
The mother mouse’s sped up dialogue when scolding the kitten who befriends her offspring.
The honking sound effect from a plunger.
The mouse using a discarded guitar as a boat (who knows what junk people put in sewers).
The mothers accidentally hugging the wrong offspring when they both return.
