Summary:

Pair’O’Dice’s popularity is falling to Harlem where several African Americans are having a great time. After a Stepin Fetchit angel fails to get everyone’s attention, they succeed in getting everyone to join Pair’O’Dice courtesy of angel caricatures of popular black entertainers (such as Fats Waller and Cab Calloway).

That’s Not All, Folks:

This is the third cartoon in the infamous Censored Eleven.

The cartoon’s most memorable scene, the “Swing for Sale” song would later be reused in “Have You Got Any Castles” (1938), a far less racist cartoon and one that is not in the Censored Eleven.

Caricatures in the cartoon include Oscar Polk, Louis Armstrong, Cab Calloway, Fats Waller, Stepin Fetchit, Jimmie Lunceford, Bill Robinson, Al Jolson, and the Mills Brothers.

In the end, Pair’O’Dice becomes so popular that the Devil himself wants to get in!

What I Like About This One:

The animation and score.

The Milky Way being portrayed as milk bottles in space.

The Stepin Fetchit angel’s wings picking up the phone and tapping him on the head.

The “Swing for Sale” song is quite fun (although it would be used better in “Have You Got Any Castles”).

The Fats Waller angel playing another piano with his wings.
