Release Date:
June 8, 1935
Main Character(s):
None
Summary:
The people on Captain Benny’s showboat are entertained with the various acts.
That’s Not All, Folks:
Captain Benny is voiced by Tedd Pierce (who would become one of the studio’s main storymen).
Joe Dougherty, who was the original voice of Porky Pig before Mel Blanc took over, voices the stuttering contestant.
What I Like About This One:
A cello-playing dog watching the orchestra conductor (a pig caricature of Paul Whiteman) via a screen.
One of the orchestra members attaching an electric socket to the conductor’s tail so he conducts the “William Tell Overture” at super fast speed.
An opera singer (a cow) getting pulled out of her clothes when she is given the gong.
The stuttering contestant annoys the audience with his rendition of the title song. He apparently knows of this beforehand, so before he starts his act, he hides the gong in the back of his pants.
An irritated Captain Benny losing his peg leg at one point while holding his ears and walking around in circles.
