Release Date:

Main Character(s):

Two Curious Dogs

Summary:

The Two Curious Dogs have their own separate misadventures in the zoo.

That’s Not All, Folks:

This is the last cartoon of Jones’ “early” period where he was heavily influenced by Disney and his cartoons were more slower paced (which makes it hard for one to believe that this same man later created the Roadrunner and Wile E. Coyote).

This is also the last appearance of the Two Curious Dogs. Incidentally, this is also their only cartoon that was not reissued.

Even though he is uncredited due to having left the studio to join Tex Avery at MGM, this was the last Warner cartoon written by Rich Hogan.

What I Like About This One:

The two dogs are seen digging a hole in a dirt road when a motorcycle suddenly zooms past. The brown dog ends up jumping over the zoo wall, landing in the pouch of a kangaroo.

The white dog crawling across a statue in a fountain and then standing on the water. As soon as he takes a step, though, he falls in.

The white dog watching two lovebirds making love before the male lovebird realizes someone is watching him romance the female lovebird and tells the white dog, “Ok, bud. Break it up.” When the white dog doesn’t comply, the male lovebird yells, “SCRAM, STUPID!”

A running gag of a frustrated stork attempting to stand on one leg.

Meanwhile, the brown dog is given a ride by the kangaroo. When he exits her pouch, he begins to hop like a kangaroo (and bumps into the stork at one point).

A laughing hyena finding the dogs’ antics to be so hilarious.

The brown dog then gets scared by a lion roaring from behind him and zooms up into a tree. Annoyed at the hyena for laughing at him, the brown dog barks at him in anger, only to stop when he sees a monkey staring at him. He slides down the tree, but unfortunately, a porcupine walks past, causing the brown dog to prick his behind on the porcupine’s quills!

The lion angrily roaring at the white dog for stealing his bone- although the lion can’t do anything about it due to being in a cage. The white dog also unknowingly buries said bone in the same place where an ostrich’s head was buried.

Since the ostrich now has the bone in his mouth, the white dog chases after him. The ostrich trips over a rock, resulting in the bone landing on a turtle. The white dog lands on top of him, and when the smoke clears, the white dog is wearing the turtle’s shell while the turtle is seen with the bone in his mouth and also wearing yellow underwear with red flowers.

The brown dog finally comes down from the tree when the monkey screams at him. Not only does he bump into the stork again, but he ends up rolling right back into the kangaroo’s pouch.

Chasing after the turtle, the white dog causes the bone to fly onto the snout of a hippo whose mouth the white dog accidentally runs into before realizing where he is and running back out (a blink and you’ll miss it frame shows the hippo looking peeved at this).

Jumping out of the kangaroo’s pouch results in the brown dog landing in a pelican’s bill.

The white dog attempting to run very fast to get the bone from the hippo. Although he gets the bone, he bumps into the lion, the stork (who silently curses at this), and the pelican. Both dogs land in the kangaroo pouch where they are joined by their biggest fan, the hyena.
