March 2, 1935
Main Character(s):
Porky Pig, Beans, Oliver Owl, Ham and Ex, Little Kitty
Summary:
An elementary school is having a series of acts set up by the kids, with most of them having problems. These include Porky Pig having trouble reciting “The Midnight Ride of Paul Revere” due to his stutter, and abruptly changing it to “Charge of the Light Brigade”, Little Kitty’s struggle to recite “Mary Had a Little Lamb”, and Beans the Cat getting back at snooty Oliver Owl, simply because he refuses to share his candy.
That’s Not All, Folks:
This is a very important cartoon in history as it marks the debut appearance of the oldest Looney Tunes character still in use today- Porky Pig!
Beans, Ham and Ex the twin puppies, Little Kitty, and Oliver Owl would continue to make appearances later on in 1935 and in early 1936.
Up until Mel Blanc started voicing him, Porky’s voice was provided by Joe Dougherty, who was an actual stutterer himself!
What I Like About This One:
Porky’s introduction.
During Little Kitty’s recital, she forgets the lines so the teacher gives her a hint by tossing snow-like cornflakes in the air, but Kitty misses the point and says “fleece as white as cornflakes”.
Beans’ scheme to sabotage Oliver’s piano playing.
