Summary:

A parody of Christopher Columbus’ journey to America with Porky Pig as Columbus.

That’s Not All, Folks:

This is the first cartoon to not have “Warner Bros” above the shield in a banner.

At one point, Porky encounters a sea serpent. This foreshadows Clampett’s future career in creating Beany and Cecil.

What I Like About This One:

The introduction: “1492, when even the most learned of astronomers believed the world was as flat as a pancake”, and then shows the Earth that way.

Porky proving to the Queen that the Earth is round by pitching a baseball in one direction and then having it come back in the other direction, covered in travel stickers.

The narrator describing Porky’s crew as brave but the crew prove to be quite the opposite. When Porky asks if they’re men or mice, they shrink down into the latter.

When a crowd is heard cheering, only two people who aren’t even paying attention are there.

Porky getting directions from the stars which spell out “To America” along with an arrow pointing in that direction.

“Gee, I could mess up a lot of history books by turning back now, couldn’t I, folks?”

“40 days and 40 nights passed” as the sky background constantly switches from day to night. The narrator points out that was only 39 before they do one more switch.

Porky not believing in the existence of sea serpents until one with a Charlie Chan accent is seen leaning against the ship’s railing. He then brags about being the biggest serpent in the sea, until an even bigger sea serpent rises up from underneath the ship and frightens him away.

When land pops up from the water, there is a sign advertising the Indians’ “dandruff cure” and “scalp treatment” and labeled as the “Tom E. Hawke Method”.

Porky taking some Indians back with him to show the Queen his discovery. The Indians perform their ceremonial dance which is dancing to “Jeepers Creepers”. The Queen tells them to stop, but it turns out she wants to join in when she tells them to go and they continue.
