Spot gags shown in Alaska.

That’s Not All, Folks:

This is the first cartoon to use the 1939-1940 red, white, and blue rings. From this cartoon up until “Cross Country Detours”, the cartoons would have a sky background. From “Confederate Honey” to “Ceiling Hero”, the background would be black.

This is also the first cartoon where Charles McKimson (younger brother of future director Robert McKimson) is given an animation credit.

Bette Davis and Sonja Hennie are both caricatured.

What I Like About This One:

The ocean liner going to Alaska being called the “SS Wrecks”.

Part of the ocean liner’s bottom lifting up when the anchor is pulled up.

The offscreen captain of the ocean liner following the coastline where the ship goes in the same direction as the way the land is shaped.

In the water below, salmon are shown as swimming cans.

When someone shipwrecked is spotted, he rejects help from the ocean liner because he was alone on the raft with a beautiful woman (caricature of Bette Davis)!

Icebergs beginning to make appearances with a Los Angeles City Limits sign and a “Good Rumors” ice cream man.

The ocean liner’s icebreaker is a human’s hand using an ice pick.

When the ocean liner arrives at Alaska, “we drop anchor” where the anchor is simply dropped into the water with nothing holding it.

The gangplank going down with everyone going down into the water.

An Eskimo being crammed up in his small igloo while cooking a fish.

A chicken laying frozen solid eggs (a gag reused from “Sioux Me”).

Eskimos rubbing noses with the male Eskimo being driven wild from this (a gag reused from “Polar Pals”).

A timber wolf (voiced by Avery himself) shouting “TIMBER!” over and over again stopping at one point to tell the audience, “Gee, this is silly!”

A fish-eating penguin getting swallowed by a penguin-eating fish!

An Eskimo nightclub being called the “Brass Monkey Club” (brass monkey is usually a term to describe cold weather).

When the people and anchor (which have both been submerged this entire time) get back on the ocean liner to go back to New York, visibility becomes poor and when they are home at last- with the ocean liner rocking back and forth on top of the 1939 World’s Fair Trylon!

Where Can I Watch It?
