Looney Tunes Collector's Vault Volume 2 Announced!

In some very exciting news, Looney Tunes Collector’s Vault Volume 2 from Warner Archive is scheduled for a release date of March 24. Like with the previous volume, the first disc continues the theme of the Collector’s Choice volumes, collecting cartoons that have not been restored on disc in remastered form (the big selling point for me since it’s important we get absolutely everything that hasn’t been put out on disc in remastered form on EITHER format put out first) while the second disc is again cartoons that have already been released on DVD in remastered form, but not Blu-ray (though thankfully, we do have an exception this time noted below). The first disc also contains an extra cartoon due to Volume 1 accidentally including a previously released cartoon (1955’s “Double or Mutton”, which is already on Collector’s Choice Volume 4), and while this was to correct a mistake, the more, the merrier.

The set will contain the following cartoons (both discs have them once again presented in alphabetical order):

Disc 1 (technically Collector’s Choice Volume 6, and the reason this is an instant must-add to my collection):

  1. A Lad in His Lamp (October 23, 1948)- newly remastered for this set

  2. Ain’t That Ducky (May 19, 1945)- newly remastered for this set; meaning 1945 is now the earliest year where every cartoon released in it has been restored (and now all available on disc in remastered form!)

  3. The Bird Came COD (January 17, 1942)

  4. Bone Sweet Bone (May 22, 1948)

  5. Boston Quackie (June 22, 1957)

  6. Boulevardier from the Bronx (October 10, 1936)

  7. Country Boy (February 9, 1935)

  8. The Daffy Duckaroo (October 24, 1942)- newly remastered for this set; entirely new to home video

  9. Dr. Jerkyl’s Hide (May 8, 1954)

  10. The EggCited Rooster (October 4, 1952)- entirely new to home video

  12. Fowl Weather (April 4, 1953)

  13. I Gopher You (January 30, 1954)

  14. I Taw a Putty Tat (April 3, 1948)- newly remastered for this set

  15. I Was a Teenage Thumb (January 19, 1963)- entirely new to home video

  16. Little Blabbermouse (July 6, 1940)

  17. Mother Was a Rooster (October 20, 1962)- entirely new to home video

  18. Pests for Guests (January 29, 1955)

  19. The Rattled Rooster (June 26, 1948)- as the HBO Max master uses the original titles, it’s very safe to assume the original titles will be present here

  20. A Sheep in the Deep (February 10, 1962)

  21. Sock a Doodle Do (May 10, 1952)- entirely new to home video

  22. A Street Cat Named Sylvester (September 5, 1953)

  25. Woolen Under Where (May 11, 1963)

  26. Zoom at the Top (June 30, 1962)

Disc 2 (like with the first volume, almost all cartoons I already have restored on DVD and do not need HD copies of, because they really don’t look that much better on Blu-ray. Releases they are on are noted):

  2. A Bird in a Guilty Cage (August 30, 1952)- Golden Collection Volume 2

  8. The Heckling Hare (July 5, 1941)- Golden Collection Volume 2

  9. Hop and Go (March 27, 1943)- previously released to DVD as a bonus feature but unremastered, so it’s making its restored disc debut here

  25. You Were Never Duckier (August 7, 1948)- Golden Collection Volume 5

Notes of Observation for the First Disc:

  1. Four are specifically remastered for this set (all of which have been VERY high on my list of cartoons that I have been wanting to see remastered for ages), while the other twenty-two are the same restorations done for HBO Max in 2020, with necessary fixes made like the photoshopped titles being fixed.

  2. Seven are entirely new to home video (having not been previously released on VHS and laserdisc, and not having been on DVD as an unremastered bonus cartoon).

  3. With this set, every Ralph Wolf and Sam Sheepdog cartoon, every Henery Hawk cartoon, and every Chuck Jones Roadrunner cartoon now all have a restored disc release.

  4. Speaking of Jones, every “safe” (cartoons that don’t have racial stereotypes) cartoon directed by him from the period where he was the Chuck Jones we all know and love (mid-1942-1964) also now has a restored disc release.

  5. This set leaves only one Goofy Gophers cartoon (1965’s “Tease for Two”), two Foghorn Leghorn cartoons (1958’s “Feather Bluster” and 1962’s “The Slick Chick”) and one Arthur Davis cartoon (1948’s “Nothing But the Tooth”) left to be restored on disc (though I have absolutely no doubt they’ll all appear on Volume 3)

  6. The HBO Max restoration of “The Rattled Rooster” has the original titles intact, so they will 100% very likely be here as well.

  7. Some good timing here: We recently talked about “Sock a Doodle Do” this past Thursday and it’s going to be on this recently announced set.

  8. “Dr. Jerkyl’s Hide” will be included on this set and it will have its post published on March 19, just five days shy of this set’s release date.

Of course, when I get around to doing posts on all of the essential DVD and Blu-ray releases, I will do this one as well, because this is not the official post for it, and just an anticipation post for it being confirmed.
