More Info on the Deleted Scenes from "Hollywood Steps Out" Found

This cel of Clark Gable was from the scene where he is talking with his wife at the time, Carole Lombard, just before he sees the blonde woman (Groucho in disguise) and makes an excuse to leave which was cut from the 1948 reissue due to Lombard’s death in 1942.
Devon Baxter’s most recent post on Cartoon Research has revealed some more info on the footage from “Hollywood Steps Out” that was cut from its Blue Ribbon reissue. The pictured cel of Clark Gable was recently found as were these film editing sheets that indicate specifically what was seen in the original 1941 release. And while these were never part of the cartoon, auctions of animation drawings from Bob Clampett’s personal collection revealed that there was a different gag that closed Sally Rand’s bubble dance: After Harpo bursts her bubble with a slingshot, which reveals she’s only wearing a barrel, she would turn around with the back of the barrel having the sign: “This End Up”. In the final version of the cartoon, she just stands in shock as the curtain closes. Another drawing revealed that Joe Penner was originally going to be one of the stars watching Rand’s bubble dance, but Penner died before the cartoon was released, so his caricature was removed from the final version.
