My Ideal Looney Tunes Lineup on Tubi
Here is the actual special post to commemorate the milestone of having done posts on 600 cartoons (or in this case, now 605). While I view streaming as inferior to physical media, I am glad that more people out there have easier access to viewing these cartoons thanks to Tubi, where you can literally stream them for free. The only caveat though is how they’re ordered. Originally, these were grouped somewhat chronologically even though in most places, a few cartoons were placed in the wrong sections (for instance, 1939’s “Screwball Football”, 1942’s “Aloha Hooey”, and 1955’s “Pappy’s Puppy” are grouped together even though they were all made in different eras). At some point, Tubi inexplicably decided to have the selections ordered backward meaning you get the earliest cartoons advertised as last instead of first, which just feels absolutely wrong (it feels wrong viewing anything you enjoy backwards actually). The point of this post is to show you how I would have these ordered on the service if I were asked to program them (like how they are on the service, three cartoons will be grouped together). All of the cartoons here would be presented as follows: full opening and closing credits intact (or if it’s been restored with their credit-less Blue Ribbon reissues then that’s still the case here as unfortunate as it is) and all cartoons are completely uncut and uncensored, in full frame, presented at their correct playback speed, use their correct soundtracks, in their correct pitch, and are presented in their original color or black and white. Cartoons that have been restored on disc but have yet to appear on disc in their restored form as of this writing will be noted with an asterisk while cartoons on the service that are currently not restored are also noted. Thankfully, though, most of these cartoons are available on disc restored, so anything that is not noted apart from the year means they are available on DVD or Blu-ray restored. So, without further ado, this is how I think Tubi’s Looney Tunes lineup should be presented as:
