Directed by Chuck Jones

Release Date:

Main Character(s):

Sniffles

Summary:

Sniffles goes to a closed drug store at night for a remedy to cure his cold. He gets drunk on an alcoholic cold remedy and befriends an electric razor that has a mind of its own.

That’s Not All, Folks:

This is the first appearance of one of Jones’ first continuing characters, Sniffles the Mouse and this cartoon immediately explains the reasoning behind Sniffles’ name due to him having a cold.

This is the only Sniffles cartoon to not receive a Blue Ribbon reissue (although two of his cartoons, “Little Brother Rat” (1939) and “Hush My Mouse” (1946) have had their respective original titles found).

What I Like About This One:

Sniffles entering the drug store via the mail slot.

Sniffles’ mouth becoming on fire after he drinks “Xlnt Cold Cure” (125% Alcohol). He then races over to another alcoholic drink to relieve the burning and becomes tipsy.

The way Sniffles starts to run before encountering the electric razor.

Sniffles accidentally sneezing at the razor, causing it to get a cold itself.

After the razor becomes drunk from drinking a sample of the alcoholic cold cure Sniffles gave him, he joins Sniffles in singing “How Dry I Am” (animated by Robert McKimson).

Sniffles falling into a toy steam shovel arcade game where a cat tries to fish him out for a meal.

Sniffles staggering onto the squeezer of a perfume bottle. When it emits a spray, he shushes it.

Just as the cat finally gets Sniffles out of the claw game and is about to do him in, the razor wakes up from unconsciousness and upon seeing Sniffles in danger, he attacks the cat by shaving most of his fur off (although I can’t help but feel kind of sorry for the cat).

After Sniffles thanks the razor for saving him, he sneezes himself back into the claw game where he hangs from the claw by his pants.

Where Can I Watch It?
