Summary:

It’s a big day for the small rural town of Hicksville when the celebrity Miss Glory is coming to town. At the town’s only hotel, the bellhop, Abner, is very excited to meet her. When time passes by and Miss Glory doesn’t show up, Abner falls asleep and dreams of being the bellhop in a luxurious New York hotel with hundreds of suitors trying to page Miss Glory.

That’s Not All, Folks:

This is the only Warner cartoon where the main crew are not credited. The only onscreen credit is “Modern Art Conceived and Designed by Leodora Congdon”.

This is the earliest cartoon to be in the book “The 100 Greatest Looney Tunes Cartoons”.

The cartoon uses Art Deco designs and characters.

This was the first color cartoon directed by Tex Avery and the first Merrie Melodie since “Rhythm in the Bow” to be directed by someone other than Friz Freleng.

The lady who performs the fan dance later appeared in one of HBO Max’s original Looney Tunes cartoons, “Daffucino”.

What I Like About This One:

This cartoon has the best musical score in a Warner Bros. cartoon before the arrival of Carl Stalling (I particularly love the music that plays during the scene where the lady who Abner mistakes for Miss Glory loses her skirt and performs a fan dance).

This is also the best animated cartoon so far.

The title song is very catchy (both the trio version and the reprise near the end).

The facial features of the musical trio.

The chorus with the trio stopping due to someone having trouble popping open a champagne bottle.

A customer ordering a huge pile of food, but he only eats half of one olive and departs.

One gentleman putting on his clothes while he’s in the middle of a steam bath.

A chef dropping his cake through the floor (he then falls into the hole the cake made).

Abner having trouble getting into an elevator to see Miss Glory. When he finally gets one, the operator goes “Out to Lunch”!

The hilarious twist ending. When Abner wakes up from his dream, the real Miss Glory finally arrives. It turns out that Miss Glory is actually a Shirley Temple-like little kid!
