Pettin' in the Park
Directed by Bernard Brown
Release Date:
January 27, 1934
Main Character(s):
None
Summary:
The first half of the cartoon shows everyone getting romantic. The second half involves a water race between various birds.
That’s Not All, Folks:
This is the first of two cartoons directed by Bernard Brown, who was one of the composers for the Warner Bros. cartoons around this time (he shared composer duties with Norman Spencer after Hugh Harman and Rudolf Ising left and up until the point where they both left the studio).
This is the first screen credit for Bob Clampett, another person who would end up becoming a great director.
This is also the last Merrie Melodie to use the extended version of “I Think You’re Ducky”. The rest of the Merrie Melodies to use that tune use a shortened version.
What I Like About This One:
The nurse’s baby having a deep tough voice instead of a childish one.
A penguin trying to snap at a butterfly but accidentally bites the nurse on the behind. Thinking that it was the policeman she was flirting with was responsible, she gives him a slap!
“Now wasn’t that just too ducky?”
A bird trying to dive into the water but somehow ends up in a trash can labeled, “Deposit Rubbish Here”.
The same penguin from earlier winning the race!
