Porky's Ant
Directed by Chuck Jones

Release Date:
May 10, 1941
Main Character(s):
Porky Pig
Summary:
Porky Pig goes to Africa to hunt for the rare pygmy ant which is worth $150,000.
That’s Not All, Folks:
Porky’s native carrying his supplies resembles Inki.
The cartoon no longer airs on television due to racial stereotypes. But since it’s not in the Associated Artists Productions package, it is not one of the Censored Eleven.
Porky would hunt a pygmy ant again in “Porky’s Midnight Matinee” (released later in 1941).
There are only three lines of dialogue in the cartoon.
The high quality print on the Porky Pig 101 DVD set has the incorrect opening theme.
The score for the opening scene is available on the Carl Stalling Project Volume 1.
What I Like About This One:
Porky’s stuttering causing him to say “midget ant” instead of “pygmy ant”.
The ant following Porky and the native only because the ant wants the bone in the native’s hair.
The native getting distracted by the ant, causing him to bump into Porky and spill all of the bags. Porky then realizes that this is the ant he’s looking for.
Porky attempting to catch the ant by putting a piece of chocolate in front of a piece of fly paper. The ant zips around the fly paper instead and when Porky tosses it away in frustration, it ends up landing on the native’s face.
Just as the native gets the fly paper off his face, Porky knocks into him when pursuing the ant, causing the fly paper to again get stuck to his face.
The ant then rests by a sleeping lion. Feeling the lion’s claws with his hands acting like legs, Porky then walks his fingers back.
Porky’s next attempt involves trying to catch the ant with a lasso, but the ant attaches it to the lion’s claw. Upon seeing what he caught, Porky sheepishly pushes the lion back to where he originally was.
The ant then proceeds to taunt Porky, knowing that he won’t catch him if he’s near the lion. Eventually, the lion wakes up and leaves, unbeknownst to the ant. He only finds this out when Porky creeps up towards him.
Meanwhile, the native is getting the fly paper off his face again, only for the lion to be the first thing he sees after starting to remove it. He then puts it back on his face and runs away.
The ant saving both Porky and the native by having the lion step on the fly paper which results in the lion rolling down several trees on a hill and landing in a stump with his feet stuck on the fly paper.
To show his gratitude, Porky gives the ant a reward- the native’s bone!
