Porky's Moving Day

Directed by Jack King

Release Date:

September 12, 1936

Main Character(s):

Porky Pig

Summary:

Miss Cud’s house is on a cliff above the ocean, and the waves put it on the brink of falling in at any moment. She calls Porky’s Moving Van, to move out her furniture so she can move to a safer place. Porky Pig and his two assistants, Lulu the Ostrich and an ape named Dopey (who starts throwing punches whenever he hears a bell or a loud ring, and has to be brought back to his senses via a hit on the head, and whenever someone does that, he says “Okay, boss”) are not up to the task.

That’s Not All, Folks:

This is the last cartoon to use the intro with Little Kitty, Beans, Oliver Owl, and Porky Pig on the “Looney Tunes” title card.

This is also the last cartoon to be directed by Jack King, who would spend the next 10 years at Disney, mostly directing Donald Duck cartoons until his retirement in 1947 (it’s also the only cartoon directed by King to have a Carl Stalling score).

What I Like About This One:

Dopey is an amusing character.

When Lulu stops at Miss Cud’s house after running at super fast speed, she causes the moving trailer to spin around.

Miss Cud and Porky going inside, but shutting the door in Dopey’s face. Dopey then rings the doorbell, but the noise causes him to start swinging punches.

Porky tossing out a mattress on the ground so the piano will land safely, but both objects go right through the ground.

Dopey pulling out the whole fireplace, chimney and all.

Lulu swallowing an alarm clock and the noise causing Dopey to drop a ton of dishes, and is brought back to his senses, when one of the dishes smashes against his head.

The ocean waves washing all of the furniture into the moving van!
