That’s Not All, Folks:
Pinky would make one more appearance in “Porky’s Picnic” (1939).
This is the first cartoon to be written by Warren Foster, who would become one of Warner Bros’ top storymen.
What I Like About This One:
The PS on the sign advertising the swim race: “Elephants must wear trunks while swimming!”
Several characters being in bathing suits that don’t fit them so they go to a shower labeled “Bathing Suit Fitter” where the water shrinks the suits to make them fit (one of these includes a dog character who also shrinks down to size!)
Porky accidentally pitching his umbrella on the stomach of a tough bulldog who was covered in sand!
Pinky hitting Porky with his sand shovel while he’s asleep. Porky comments “Flies” since he thought Pinky was trying to swat one.
Porky thinking that another kid hit him with a sand shovel and telling him to stop by taking it away, but the kid simply takes out a larger shovel. When Porky takes that away, the kid hits him with an even bigger shovel. Pinky then hypocritically tells him not to do that to his Uncle Porky and when trying to hit the kid accidentally hits Porky!
Pinky pretending to drown in a shallow pool of water and tricking Porky into diving in, causing the latter to get a starfish stuck to his face.
Porky approving of Pinky covering him with sand so Pinky dumps a truckload of sand on him.
A duck using his beak as a fanfare for the start of the swim race.
A mouse firing a pistol that shoots out a traffic light signalling “go”.
Everyone else grabbing water vehicles while Porky is the only one swimming on his own.
A swan swallowing little birds in a rowboat to go faster.
An Eddie Cantor caricature hitting a buoy and happily stating, “At last, a buoy!”
An elk using sails on his antlers.
Pinky making a toy sailboat look like a shark to scare Porky into swimming so fast that he wins the race. When Pinky reveals that it was just a little toy sailboat, he pulls out a real shark!
