Main Character(s):
Daffy Duck, Porky Pig
Summary:
General Daffy Duck leads his troops, with Porky Pig being one of them, against a tribe of wacky Indians.
That’s Not All, Folks:
This was one of two Daffy and Porky cartoons released in 1939 (the other one being “Wise Quacks”). Those two cartoons had their own unique “Starring Porky and Daffy” title card, that were used for them only.
This cartoon would later be remade in color in 1944 as “Slightly Daffy”, directed by Friz Freleng (which is a little odd that he directed it, as Clampett was still at the studio during that time).
Porky is shown to have a picture of Petunia Pig above his bunk.
What I Like About This One:
The guard at the gate of the fort asking the audience if they’ve seen any Indians around. Several Indians appear behind him and say they haven’t before disappearing. Not knowing who it was that answered him, the guard says “That’s good” and continues marching.
The idea of Daffy being a general (and this was when he was still his original screwball self). He is also shown to be wearing a Napoleon hat and carrying what appears to be an oversized sword, but is actually a little bitty one.
When Daffy sees that the bugler is asleep, he shoves the bugle in the bugler’s mouth, and pricks him in the behind with his sword so that the bugler’s yells of pain come out as a fast version of “Reveille”.
Daffy getting the troops up by yelling, “Get up, you guys! What do you think this is, a rest home?”, and all except Porky run out.
Daffy trying to get Porky up, but he becomes so tired from doing so, that he joins him in bed. It collapses under the weight of both of them.
After Porky dresses up in his uniform, Daffy accidentally causes the oversized case for his sword to fling into Porky, who is propelled backwards and then forwards by his bayonet. He crashes into Daffy, who ends up in his arms. Daffy says coyly, “Gosh, I didn’t know you cared!”
One Indian failing to jump onto his horse at the right time when the Indians go out to attack.
Porky trying to warn everyone about the Indians (he even says, “All kinds of stuff like that there!”) only to find one leaning on the fort next to him.
One of the troops’ gun acting like a spittoon.
Another Indian drinking “Four Noses Fire Water” to burn out a hole shaped like him in the fort, so he can gain entrance.
A short Indian using a tall Indian’s legs as a bow to fire arrows.
Porky being greeted by a Jerry Colonna Indian who says, “Greetings, gate! Let’s scalpitate!”
Daffy getting a ton of ammunition from the powder house, but he ends up tripping and accidentally swallowing the bullets. When Daffy’s body goes into an explosive fit, Porky uses this to his advantage to use Daffy as a machine gun to defeat the Indians (who carve out in a mountainside, “Yanks Beat Indians, 11-3!”)
Daffy sighing in relief, “I’m sure glad THAT’S over with!”, before he trips and his body goes into a repeat performance of the explosive fit as the cartoon ends.
