At Your Service Madame
Directed by Friz Freleng
Release Date:
August 29, 1936
Main Character(s):
Hamhock Family
Summary:
An all-pig cast. A WC Fields pig hears about wealthy Mrs. Hamhock, and tries to serenade her while he robs her safe. Her problem child, Piggy, catches on to what he’s doing, and teams up with his siblings to expose and gang up on him.
That’s Not All, Folks:
This is probably the first time WC Fields is caricatured in a Warner Bros. cartoon.
This is also the last cartoon scored by Norman Spencer.
According to her autobiography, “Living Life Inside the Lines”, this was the first cartoon that ink and paint artist Martha Sigall worked on.
The Hamhock family would later return in the 1937 cartoon, “Pigs is Pigs”.
What I Like About This One:
Piggy washing his toothbrush to make it look like he’s brushed his teeth before zooming down to eat breakfast.
The Fields pig running across a busy street to pick up a discarded cigar.
The running gag of the Fields pig’s nose getting stuck on places like a suction cup.
The Fields pig ringing the doorbell with his cane.
When the Fields pig looks at Mrs. Hamhock’s ring (“What a beautiful hand you have!”), it squirts water at him!
The children’s way of disposing of the Fields pig.
When the Fields pig gets stuck in a window, the kids attach a vibrating machine to his body, so the money he smuggled in his shirt falls out.
The Fields pig leaving and bidding Mrs. Hamhock good night, still vibrating!
