Release Date:
June 26, 1937
Main Character(s):
None
Summary:
A series of gags on an Indian reservation which climaxes with a shoot out against a pioneer.
That’s Not All, Folks:
The cartoon was given a Blue Ribbon reissue. The song “Indian Dawn” played over the opening credits which were:
Supervision: I. Freleng
Animation: Bob McKimson and AC Gamer
Musical Direction: Carl W. Stalling
The cartoon’s title is a pun on the song “Sweet Sue, Just You”.
This is the last cartoon to use the 1936-1937 rendition of “Merrily We Roll Along”.
This is the first cartoon to use “The Merry Go Round Broke Down”, which would become the Looney Tunes theme a few months later in October.
What I Like About This One:
Chief “Rain in the Face” literally having a rain cloud pouring on his face.
A chicken doing an Indian yell when she lays an egg.
The gag with a hitchhiking Indian.
Another Indian spelling out a smoke message in Morse code (ending with a hiccup).
Two Indians doing the Russian kick dance.
An Indian and his horse being propelled backwards whenever he shoots.
The merry go round gag (which is what I used for the screenshot).
The end gag where one brave clubs another so he can be the (literal) Last Mohican.
