Summary:

A little boy is put to bed in the middle of an evening radio program. He dreams that his toys come to life and imitate Hollywood stars.

That’s Not All, Folks:

This is the last cartoon to use “I Think You’re Ducky” as the Merrie Melodies theme and the first Merrie Melodie scored by Carl Stalling.

The cartoon’s 2021 restoration has heavily butchered opening and ending titles. This YouTube video shows how they were supposed to look like.

The cartoon reuses animation from several earlier Merrie Melodies which include the cheering toys from “Those Beautiful Dames”, the marching soldiers and cheering crowd from “Beauty and the Beast” (the 1934 cartoon), Bing Crosby singing “Let It Be Me” from the cartoon of the same name (although he’s portrayed as a different bird), Eddie Cantor singing “Merrily We Roll Along” from “Billboard Frolics”, the Rudy Vallee caricature, the singing Mexican trio, and the titular character from “The Lady in Red” (all of them no longer being cockroaches), and the rabbit singing the titular song from “My Green Fedora”

What I Like About This One:

Compared to how entertainment is today, I find it funny that the kid would be upset at being put to bed in the middle of a radio program featuring old Hollywood stars.

Two toy soldiers using so much energy blowing their trumpets that their faces turn purple and their bodies become thinner.

The same gag from “The Merry Old Soul” where three guys use the same giant bow for their violins.

A balloon-like character blowing himself full of air, and using said air to play the flute.

The kid doing his own impersonation of a Joe Penner laugh.

The animation of the toy band playing.
